Let’s face it—keeping up with cleaning can feel overwhelming. Between work, family, and everything else life throws at us, chores often get shuffled to the bottom of the to-do list.

That’s why I swear by having a weekly cleaning schedule to keep my home running smoothly. It’s the secret to staying sane and keeping up on home tasks, without spending hours every single day cleaning. Plus, I’ve included a free printable to make it super easy for you to get started!

Why a Weekly Cleaning Schedule?

Why adopt a weekly cleaning schedule? It saves time, reduces stress, and keeps your home consistently clean. Instead of letting chores pile up until the pre-guest rush to clean every visible surface, a schedule helps you break tasks into manageable chunks.

With a plan, you’ll:

  • Avoid feeling overwhelmed by tackling small tasks each day.
  • Keep your home guest-ready with minimal effort.
  • Build habits that simplify your life and help your home run on auto-pilot.

Trust me, once you see how much easier it makes life, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without one!

Daily Routines: The Key to Staying on Track

Daily routines are the backbone of an effective cleaning schedule. They’re quick, simple, and help you maintain order so you don’t feel like you’re constantly playing catch-up. Here’s the daily tasks I include in my weekly schedule:

Morning Routine

  • Make the bed: This takes two minutes and instantly makes your bedroom look tidy.
  • Unload the dishwasher: Starting the day with an empty dishwasher means you can load dishes as you use them, saving you from a dish washing marathon at the end of the day.
  • Start a load of laundry: Keeping the laundry moving daily prevents those overwhelming weekend piles and keeps your floors clear.

Evening Routine

  • Quick pickup: Spend 10-15 minutes tidying up common areas—put toys away, fluff pillows, etc.
  • Start the dishwasher: A clean kitchen in the morning is a game-changer.
  • Fold and put away laundry: Finish the laundry cycle you started in the morning so it doesn’t linger.

These small habits add up and make the rest of your cleaning schedule much easier to manage.

Your Weekly Cleaning Schedule

Now that you’ve got your daily routines down, let’s dive into the weekly plan. Each day focuses on a specific area of your home, so nothing gets missed. You can customize these tasks to what you prefer to do in each area of your home and on which days, but here is what I do:

Monday: Bedrooms

  • Change and wash sheets.
  • Dust furniture, including nightstands and shelves.
  • Vacuum or sweep floors.
  • Declutter surfaces like dressers or bedside tables.

Tuesday: Bathrooms

  • Clean toilets, sinks, and mirrors.
  • Wipe down counters and faucets.
  • Give the shower/tub a quick scrub.
  • Replace towels and empty trash cans.

Wednesday: Kitchen

  • Wipe down countertops and appliances.
  • Wipe down cabinet fronts.
  • Clean microwave.
  • Clean stovetop.

Thursday: Main Living & Meal Planning

  • Dust surfaces, including shelves and electronics.
  • Vacuum or sweep floors.
  • Clean out fridge.
  • Meal plan & order groceries.

Friday: Catch-Up Day

  • Pick-up groceries.
  • Check mail & scan any lingering paperwork.
  • Tackle any tasks you missed earlier in the week.

Saturday: Extras

  • Choose a few “extras” that need to be done less frequently like sweeping the porch, cleaning baseboards, etc.

Sunday: Rest and Reset

  • Light cleaning only: vacuum high-traffic areas, wipe down counters, etc.
